1. Researchers often look for patterns in the data to help
understand and predict certain kinds of phenomena. However, sometimes data
points do not fall into the pattern; these are called outliers. Discuss what
you think should be done about these exceptional scores—should they be included
in the data analysis? What might be gained from studying them? What outliers
have you encountered so far in your readings and your own experiences?
