Having been banned by the behaviorists for decades, introspection is now back in the running as the premier method of psychology. Cognitive psychologists attempt to quantify introspective reports so as to render them more objective and therefore amenable to statistical analyses. One approach, retrospective phenomenological assessment, involves asking subjects to rate the intensity of their subjective experiences while responding to a previous stimulus situation.
