For this final paper, you are to imagine that you are explaining what lifespan development means to a close family member or friend! You must act like they have no clue what developmental psychology is about and explain the field in a way that your friend/family member can understand! You are to choose one of Baltes’ perspectives to organize your paper. Explain Baltes’ overall theory to your audience. What should they know before seeing his theory applied to what we know about developmental psych? After explaining the theory, choose which concepts you want to focus on for your paper (i.e., Life-span development, Multidirectionality, Development as gains/losses, Plasticity, Contextualism as a paradigm, and the Field of development as multidisciplinary). The only perspective you CANNOT use is Historical Embeddedness. The paper will be evaluated on four major dimensions: (a) clarity of the paper for a layperson, (b) accuracy of the information from the book/class, (c) how well everything is explained as well as examples to help solidify the information to your audience (pretend you are teaching your audience), and (d) how organized and fluid the overall paper is (intro, body, conclusion paragraphs).
This paper will need to be in APA format (cover page, 12pt Times New Roman, double spaced, etc.). Grammar and spelling mistakes will count against you. This paper should be between 5-7 pages (cover page does not count). The paper will be due on 4/16 at 11:59pm via Brightspace. There will be a place to upload your document in Assignments under “Final Paper”
