Instructions
For this writing assignment, you have a choice of 2 options (only select one):
Option 1 allows you to dive deeply into the broad theories in Child Psychology (review your textbook- Chapter 1 for the theories) and define and apply to your own development. Option 2 provides an opportunity to look at development from a contextual framework and how that applied to your development. This writing assignment will be a minimum of 350 words. Do not directly quote terminology, paraphrase in your own words and cite in APA. Make sure to cite the textbook and outside resources in APA. The use of APA for in-text citations and for the Reference page is a great opportunity to review over APA and practice this style of documentation.
Option 1 – Child Psych Theories
Define and summarize each child development theory to demonstrate your understanding of the theories (in your own words). There are 5 major theoretical perspectives listed in the textbook.
Choose two of the theoretical perspectives that most relate to you. Describe how the theory applies to your development in childhood adolescence period of development. Clearly connect the theory to personal life experiences.
Option 2 – Context to Development
According to Santrock (2022), contexts are “the settings in which development occurs” which are “influenced by historical, economic, social, and cultural factors”. The four that we will focus on most heavily in our studies are:
Culture
Ethnicity
Socioeconomic status
Gender
In your post, define each of these contexts (in your own words) and provide a description of how they have affected you over the course of your life so far. Include relevant examples of your experiences to support what you say. Finally, locate a recent outside article (2017-Present) on one of these contextual topics, summarize the article, and include the URL link.
