Option #1: Strategic Business Plan: Specific Program (Narrative/Paper)

For this project, you are to evaluate an existing service line or program (such as a diabetes management program, comprehensive oncology center, geriatric wing of a hospital, etc.) for an actual/real healthcare organization. You may select a hospital, integrated medical group, day surgery facility, nursing home, or urgent care facility within your own community. If your current employer falls into one of the categories, you may use your current employer/organization for this project. For the purpose of the assignment, assume that you are the Director of Strategic Planning for this organization.
The CEO has assigned you the responsibility for making an informed decision as to the best way forward strategically, whether that means that the organization expands the selected program, continues the current strategy it employs, changes certain aspects of operational strategy, fully maintains the program as is, merges the program with another one, or closes the program. The summary of your assessment will be presented to the Board of Directors, CEO, COO, and CFO, so those perspectives must be considered.
Your portfolio assignment should be organized according to the following structure and contain the following elements:
Introduction:
A brief description of the current program.
Alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals that support the project.
Assessment: An evaluation of various factors that affect the feasibility and project development.
Justification via a robust assessment of the internal and external environment, either via the combination of SWOT and PEST or the combination of Porter’s Five Forces and the Strategic Industry Map (depending on which option you chose in Module 2). You may include previous information from your Module 2 CT assignment.
Whether the organization should expand the program, continue the current strategy and maintain the program as is, or close the program.
Consideration of organizational restrictions and constraints, mission, vision, values, and capabilities. For this, you will insert your Module 3 CT assignment on either the Life Cycle Analysis or Organizational Culture Analysis. The visual item should be placed in an appendix.
Include your SmartArt visual from the Module 3 Milestone in the appendix.
You may add any relevant narrative information related to your choice of tool used for integration of available alternatives (as covered in Module 4). Your Infographic from Module 4 should be placed in the appendix.
Relevant organizational issues, context, and multiple perspectives and dimensions.
Consideration of relevant market forces.
Action Plan: Provide a summary of your recommendations and strategies for implementation.
Realistic strategies and tactics identified with sufficient detail for either growth, maintenance, or closure of the program.
Articulates the who, what, when, where, and why.
Include the full memo you created as the Mod 6 CT within the appendix. You may also use any relevant narrative information within the body of the paper.
Program Evaluation: A brief discussion of how you will evaluate and benchmark the project post-implementation.
Specifies measures that would be tracked and trended post-implementation to ensure the action was effective and efficient.
Relevant organizational issues, context, and multiple perspectives.
Conclusion: This brief summary should pull together your assessment and recommendations and leave the audience with a clear sense of the results and the next steps in light of the overall vision of the organization.
Portfolio requirements:
10-12 pages in length (excluding title and reference pages).
Be submitted as a Word or PDF file.
Included all visual items/elements in an appendix.
Format citations and reference list that conforms to APA guidelines in the CSU Global Writing Center
