After reading chapters 4 and 5, please interview a parent who you know. Ask her (any gender) for her memories of her infant’s behavior and apply to what you learned in the chapter. Feel free to interview your own relatives. How does she remember the physical growth or her infant in the first 12 months? What reflexes did she observe? Does she have any memories of her infant’s sensations and perceptions of the outside world? Does she recall any experiences that would fit into Piaget’s sensorimotor stages? What were the infant’s first sounds or words? When did they develop? The person might not remember enough to answer all these questions, but try to write down two or three memories that fit into what you learned about in the reading. Share these examples with the class. Please make sure that you are referencing concepts from the text when you are giving your examples.
