Topic – School Counselor (K-12)
In an effort to better understand yourself, your motivations, interests, and influencers, you will research a counseling profession and write an essay that helps to develop a better understand of your own career development. You may want to consider interviewing an individual working in the position you chose. Interviewing a subject is not required, but can be a helpful way to learn more about the type of counselor you are interested in (and can be used as one of your required 3 sources).
Your essay should include:
Definition of the type of counselor you chose
Attributes of the type of counselor you chose
Work life / experiences of the type of counselor you chose
What level of education and training it takes to be that type of counselor
Why you chose the type of counselor
Why you think you would be a good counselor in that field
Your paper should be written in WORD (or similar word processing program). Your paper is to be double spaced and 5-7 pages in length. Any papers submitted less than 5 pages or more than 7 will be marked down.
Additional Details for the Paper:
All papers must be turned in through Canvas. NO papers will be accepted through email unless an exception has been made with the instructor.
Poorly written papers will receive lower grades regardless of the content.
Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Do not plagiarize.
A minimum of 3 outside references are required for this paper. References can include a book from the library, online article, website, journal, newspaper, movie/video, interview and more. Make sure you cite appropriately to avoid plagiarism. One of your references can be the assigned textbook Hill (2020).
APA format is required for your counselor research essay and article review essay. Points will be taken off for incorrect formatting. Please refer to the APA Workshop in Module 1 for assistance.
