Research the effects of social media on a specific age group and write 3-5 pages in which you make a recommendation for future research on the topic. Use a minimum of four resources, with two resources being more scholarly.
Introduction
Few would dispute the fact that the Internet has had a significant effect on interpersonal communication and relationships. The big question often investigated with scientific inquiry is, “Is this a good thing?”
In this assessment, you will consider the role played by social networking, microblogging, and online dating services in our lives. Some researchers, such as Joinson, McKenna, Postmes, & Reips (2009), have found that using technology to communicate also facilitates offline communication and even enhances our social and kinship connections. Others who compared users and nonusers of technology have found no significant differences between the two. Researchers have focused on how people protect their privacy (perceived and actual) in an online space, how trust levels impact disclosure in cyberspace, and even how one portrays his or her real (true) self online.
You will also consider the psychosocial impact of cyberbullying, thinking about questions such as how to measure cyberbullying, who are the perpetrators and victims of cyberbullying, and what are the consequences. Additionally, this assessment will have you explore what parents, schools, and others can do to curb or stop bullying, as well as whether they should do it.
The Assessment 4 Context document contains important information on the following topics related to the implications of social media:
Social relationships.
Cyberbullying.
