Directions
Each student will required to write a 4-6 page paper about a condition from the list below (must be on the list) or one that has been cleared with the Professor. In other words, if you have personal knowledge or interest in a psychological disorder that you would like to write a paper about, send me an email. I want to okay the topic before hand to make sure it is appropriate. If you are choosing from the list below, you don’t need to clear it with me. You cannot use papers that you have used for previous classes. You are required to have at least 1 scholarly resource. You can use other resources (including our book and the web), But at least one source needs to be scholarly. Click here to read the difference between scholarly and popular articles. APA Style
I ask that you follow APA style when referencing your sources. Please use 12 point font, Times New Roman, and double space (which also follows APA style). The 4 page requirement does not include the necessary Reference Page. Title page and abstract are not necessary. No need to put your name on the paper. I like to grade them anonymously and Turnitin keeps track of who submitted what.

Accidental Plagiarism
Some students do what I call “Accidental Plagiarism.” Check out this page I made about what that means and how to avoid it.
The paper should
Define the condition (e.g., how does it come about? What are the main issues?) (~ 1.5 pages)
Describe how one might recognize a person with the condition (e.g., what are the symptoms? What does it look like to an outsider?) (~1.5 pages)
Possible therapies for the condition. Please do not try and spend a bulk of the paper describing drug therapies for the disorder. Two or three paragraphs describing therapies should suffice. (~1.5 pages)
You will need to also turn in typed references (not included in page requirement). You may use any source you can find (i.e., books, internet, magazines) as long as you include them in your references. APA citation style is required.
Common Mistakes:
Copying and pasting from internet and changing just a few words in the sentence. This is plagiarism.
Do not use bulleted lists in your paper. If you need to list out symptoms or therapies, do it in paragraph form
Do not say things like “If you or a loved one have XX, you should seek help.” This is an academic paper not a PSA. I am your “YOU” and you shouldn’t assume I’m reading your paper to get help.
Use APA margins and font sizes. If you use the default, you’re good. We notice!
Make it 4 pages of content! Not fluff
Under 4 pages won’t cover what I need to read. If you’re under 4, have a friend tell you what you’re missing.
