For this assessment you will create a 5-10 minute video reflection on an experience in which you collaborated
interprofessionally, as well as a brief discussion of an interprofessional collaboration scenario and how it could have
been better approached.
Personal experience: working in a similar facility, we have a lab that comes and picks up our specimen for analysis. It is a very well known lab. Almost all Assisted Living Facilities use them because they’re affordable. Sometimes our specimen would get lost, or they would fail to pick them up, or our critical results would come in late–meanwhile we’re waiting on the result to treat the patient. An example I have is a patient with altered mental status, we collected a urine sample from her, we called the lab to pick it up. Not only was the pick-up late, the result was late too. Management had a meeting with the nursing team and asked if anyone had a suggestion for another lab. I suggested a lab that I used to use before, and provided management with the director of that lab. Everyone was glad we switched labs. New labs provided us with supplies, they picked up STAT specimen, they don’t just fax us critical results, they call us. We were able to better treat our patients, which is the ultimate goal!
