When evaluating the profession of nursing I believe the perceived view best encompasses this profession. The perceived view is also the interpretive view which takes into consideration the perceptions of both the patient and the nurse. The perceived view is subjective and can hold many truths. I believe this encompasses nursing because nursing is not black or white. There are many truths, and each person is a distinct individual with different experiences.
The perceived view includes phenomenology, constructivism, and historicism. Phenomenology explores the experiences of every individual and the perceptions of those experiences. I believe each person is unique as well as their experiences. Constructivism focuses on the actions that come due to those individual experiences. The way a person perceives their experiences is what causes them to react which is different for every individual. This approach focuses on understanding the person’s action. The historicism view includes feminism and critical social theory.
The perceived view takes into consideration the person’s perception. This is most closely related to the nursing profession because when caring for our patients we consider their perception, for example, the patient’s pain. We treat pain based on their subjective perception of pain. The perceived view is based on life experiences and human interaction and what we learn from those interactions is what we base our actions on.

The philosophical school of thought and science are points that stand out and serve as a guide in the nursing profession. Philosophy is understood as the purchasing process of up-to-date and authentic knowledge through collected information. It tries to determine knowledge and truth to classify what is valuable and significant. On the other hand, empiricism (received insight) refers to scientifically verifiable events or experiences (McEwen & Wills, 2019). The focal point of the perceived vision is rationalization. From human perception we can notice the perceived vision, which is what is revealed when a nurse observes a patient and evaluates and analyzes him through psychological and sociological approaches. Another dominant manifested in the nursing profession is postmodernism. It does not accept a single truth but puts into practice multiple ways of interpreting and knowing an aspect or reality. With this, nurses understand a situation in different points of view, promoting multiple qualitative and quantitative investigations, allowing restructured improvements in nursing interventions, based on evidence.
In my opinion, postmodernism today allows for changes, encouraging positive and up-to-date procedures to be implemented and put into practice. These changes allow nurses to continue researching and discovering new techniques to perform the procedures, providing a current and safe interventions to the patients. It is important to recognize postmodernist philosophy as a tool for updating, improving, and changing rudimentary practices to up-to-date, confident, safe, and evidence-based procedures.
