Continuing our study of Carl Rogers working with Gloria, we will now
focus on the skill aspects being demonstrated in the session.
Recognizing skills being demonstrated by a counselor helps new
counselors begin to see them in the performance of the counseling
process. We can study skills but the reality is that they are only
useful within the processing of client’s experiences and thinking in
directions that promote change. You will have an opportunity to identify
primary listening skills and to assess the session by using a set of
helpfulness criteria.
Analyze the transcript of Carl Rogers,
identify the following skills, evaluate the overall result of the
session according to the helpfulness criteria, and explain your
rationale for the evaluation. Reference the specific number along with
the indicator.
