As future practicing nurses, evidence-based
practice helps you stay updated about new medical protocols for patient care.
EBP, or evidence-based practice, is an indispensable part of health care and
playsâ¯a critical role in reducing practical variability, enhancing health care
quality, perfecting the health care system, improving patients’ outcomes, and
decreasing costs. As nursing students, it is important for you
to understand that evidence that supports a conclusion is part of the research
process. Literature reviews often accompany research papers in the form of a
summary and synthesis of the published information about the research topic.
Although this week’s assignment is not a literature review, it is designed to
familiarize you with the practice of finding appropriate sources and information
on a topic. · Find 3 original research articles that
apply to your research topic. My research to is Coping with illness: What
is the impact of adoption of coping Strategies on burnout experienced in formal
caregivers?
The articles must be peer reviewed, recent (published within 5 years), and statistically significant. Write a 350-word summary of each article in which you identify participants independent variable(s), dependent variable(s), methods, and results. Determine whether these articles are suitable for inclusion in a
literature review for your research topic. If they are not, explain why.â¯If they are,
explain how the information can be used to inform practice. Compile all summaries in 1 document. Submit a link to the articles and summaries. Explanation of dependent and
independent variables:
According to NIH (nd) “Independent
variables are what we expect will influence dependent variables. A Dependent
variable is what happens as a result of the independent variable. For
example, if we want to explore whether high concentrations of vehicle
exhaust impact incidence of asthma in children, vehicle exhaust is the
independent variable while asthma is the dependent variable”. Hint:
look in the title of the report. In the study “Quality of Life
in Patients With Pulmonary Hypertension” ( Shang et al., 2022)
the independent variable is Pulmonary Hypertension and the Dependent variable
is quality of life. In this case “quality of life” happens as the
result of “pulmonary hypertension”.
Quantitative Designs
· Experimental â
cause and effect (if A, then B), intervention study, used under controlled
situations such as the laboratory. Uses inferential statistics to compare
differences.
· Quasi-experimental â
also examines effects of an intervention but used when variables cannot be
controlled, such as studies with humans. Uses inferential statistics to compare
differences.
· Descriptive â
examine characteristics of a particular situation or group, no intervention,
uses descriptive statistics. · Correlational â
examine relationships between two or more variables, uses inferential
statistics to look at relationship. Qualitative Research
· Phenomenological â
examines the lived experience within a particular condition or situation
· Ethnographic â
examine the culture of a group of people
· Grounded theory â
using a research problem to discover and develop a theory
