Overview
In Week 3, you evaluated the basic science literature to identify a potential intervention that may be used to change behavior. In this week’s assignment, you will evaluate the applied literature and how this basic principle is used to change behavior. No study is perfect, and a thorough discussion of limitations is required. Researchers use the limitations from these studies to inform the development of their own original research. This analysis will be used as a component of your final assignment: crafting your own original research study to evaluate a new way of applying basic principles to make a socially significant change in behavior.
Instructions
In this assignment you will research a socially significant behavior that may be addressed using the principles you discovered. Use the Socially Significant Behavior Template [DOCX] to write a three-to-four-page review of the socially significant behavior addressing the following:
Describe the field of applied behavior analysis as it relates to radical behaviorism. Make sure to include the seven dimensions of applied behavior analysis and how these compare to the theoretical underpinnings of radical behaviorism.
Identify and define a socially relevant behavior, and describe one way in which you would measure it.
Evaluate the seminal (that is, historical) and current applied literature that addresses intervention(s). Make sure to include at least one article that is from the last five years.
Discuss the findings of the literature identifying common themes or ways in which the intervention(s) are applied.
The Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Research Guide can help you with your research.
Analyze the current gaps in the literature. Make sure to discuss the limitations of the studies and how these limitations may aid in developing a study.
Evaluate the ethical guidelines of human research using The Belmont Report and guiding principles (https://www.hhs.gov/ohrp/regulations-and-policy/belmont-report/index.html).
Provide a summary conclusion for your paper.
Support your evaluation with a minimum of five references from the scholarly, peer-reviewed literature.
Use the SafeAssign publish option to check your writing and ensure that you have paraphrased, quoted, and cited your sources appropriately. Run a SafeAssign report, saving your paper as a publish. Based on your SafeAssign results, make any necessary changes to your paper before submitting your assignment to your instructor for grading. Additional Requirements
Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current edition APA style and formatting guidelines. Refer to Evidence and APA for citing and referencing tips.
References: At least five scholarly resources.
Length of paper: Three-to-four-pages typed, double-spaced pages of content, in addition to the title page and list of references.
Refer to the scoring guide to ensure you understand the grading criteria for this assignment.
Competencies Measured
By successfully completing this assignment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring guide criteria:
Competency 1: Evaluate research in the experimental analysis of behavior. Evaluate the seminal and current applied literature that addresses interventions. Analyze current gaps in the literature. Competency 2: Distinguish features of experimental analysis of behavior (EAB) research from applied behavior analysis (ABA) research and identify features of translational research that bridge both types. Describe the field of applied behavior analysis as it relates to radical behaviorism. Define a socially relevant behavior, including a description of one way in which to measure it. Competency 4: Evaluate the core ethical requirements of behavior analytic research. Evaluate the ethical guidelines of human research using the Belmont Report and guiding principles. Competency 5: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly and consistent with expectations for professionals in the field of psychology. Demonstrate an academic writing style through well-organized prose that follows assignment guidelines. Demonstrate compliance with APA style, citation, and referencing guidelines.
