Criteria:
Identify and explain key issues (30%) that your response demonstrates relevance to the questions and includes information about the key issues explored in weeks 3 – 6 about colonisation, the impacts and ongoing effects. Reflect on course content to integrate new knowledge and personal viewpoint (30%) that your response shows you have critically reflected on the material by discussing your reactions to it and your personal viewpoint, and shows the new knowledge you have gained through reflection and engagement with the content. Use inclusive language and appropriate terminology (20%) that the language you use and the way you write reflects understanding of the content related to terminology and inclusive language, and respects social and cultural diversity. Present work that features quality written expression and employs appropriate referencing conventions (20%) that your submission is well written, well sequenced with ideas, void of repetition, free of errors in spelling and grammar and employs the recommended referencing conventions without error. This assignment is about showing your learning, your understanding and your comprehension of these core weeks in the course. This means you can write in both first and third person. This means that you can write from your perspective and use the word “I”, however, you must also draw upon references that inform your learning. For example; “I had heard about whiteness before yet couldn’t define it in my own context. The self-assessment activity enabled me to see it in my day to day (McIntosh, 1990; Tannoch-Bland, 1993) and the links to institutional racism became clear”. To build on this example with another tip, you could then go on to define institutional racism and cite a source. If you cite a number of sources about institutional racism this would enhance your scores against the criteria.
