The Research Writing Paper will be organized into an investigative and reflective paper. Students may include personal experience examples in their Research Writing Paper; however, the student will focus the majority of the Writing on the material researched using critical thinking skills and originality in the Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation of the material learned. IMPORTANT: Research Writing Papers are not Personal Journal Entries, Venting Sessions, or Summaries of the Material in the textbook. Research, critical thinking, and originality are expected. Also please be aware that the Research Writing Papers are NOT confidential papers so please consider carefully any personal examples or personal information you include in the paper.
Research Writing Papers will include and be graded on the following:

(If your Research Writing Paper is more than 1200 words, revise your Research Writing Paper to bring the word count down to less than 1200 words).

You must cite as in-text citations and work cited references, at least four credible sources using the APA/MLA format. Credible sources are as follows: websites ending in .gov. or .edu, journals from a library database, or books specific to the subject matter (textbooks are permitted as one of the four sources).
You must display use of scholarly writing skills (grammar, structure, terminology, and MLA or APA format).
Research Papers will not be accepted without the Turnitin Originality Report with less than 25% match, in-text citations, and a work cited page with full references. You will submit your research writing paper in the canvas research writing paper drop box and the research writing paper will automatically be submitted to Turnitin.
IMPORTANT: Use yourself for this research writing paper assignment. (DO NOT use your children, siblings, nieces or nephews, children you work with or may know, family members, or the people you work with, or people you may know). If you have questions or need clarification, please ask your instructor.
You may submit your paper in canvas to Turnitin as many times as you find necessary up until the due date. This way you can submit your paper, read the originality report, make the necessary changes to any found matches by paraphrasing your work further, and then resubmitting the research paper to Turnitin. Note that any submission after the first submission may take up to 24 hours to receive the new Originality Report. Also, as College Level Writers use quotes sparingly…Paraphrase (put the information in your own words) the information you are using from your sources instead of using quotes! Cite your sources whether you quote, summarize or paraphrase!
IMPORTANT: Research Papers are required to be turned into Turnitin for an Originality Report. Assignments that have excessive amounts of copied and pasted work from authors or websites (over 25%) even when they appear to be properly cited is not acceptable as the Original work of the student. These types of assignment submissions are considered the work of other author(s) and not the work of the student. These types of submissions will receive a zero. Turnitin Software will be used to determine originality of student work. If the Turnitin Originality Report is over 25% match on any assignment the assignment will not be accepted, and the assignment will receive a zero for the grade. Any assignment that is required to be submitted to Turnitin and is submitted for a grade without a required Turnitin Originality Report, will not be accepted and the assignment will receive a zero for the grade. Please be aware that at any time your instructor may choose to submit any assignment to Turnitin for an Originality Report even if an assignment does not require an Originality Report. If you have questions about Originality/Originality Reports, please ask your instructor for guidance.
IMPORTANT: Research Papers submitted after the due date are considered late and will be assessed a late fee of one Letter grade up to 7 days late (a total of one Letter Grade dropped per assignment). All Course Work (excluding Exams-Exams are not accepted after the due date) submitted after 7 days late will not be accepted and will receive a zero for a grade. Any course work that is going to be submitted late must be approved by a request email to your instructor prior to the due date. You will be given instructions for completing the Late/Makeup work. It is the student’s responsibility to notify your instructor when the Late/Make-up work has been submitted to the appropriate assignment for grading. Even with approval the late course work is subject to a reduced grade. You may be asked for proper documentation when requesting that an assignment be accepted late for a grade. Late/Make-up work will be discussed and considered on a case by case basis.
Research Writing Papers are to be completed by the due dates assigned. (See the Canvas Calendar and Weekly Schedule for ALL Due Dates).
TIP: Not following the instructions of the assignment or fulfilling the requirements of the assignment will impact the score on the Research Writing Paper.
If you are NOT using Microsoft Word Software, SAVE your Completed Research Writing Paper as a .rtf (rich text format) file. Do not submit PDF versions of your document or upload links to documents. To save the file correctly as a .rtf file: Type the name of the research paper (select .rtf Rich Text Format from the drop-down menu) then click save.
TIP: Research Writing Papers take time to Grade!!! I read all papers thoroughly and generally write feedback for the papers. Due to the magnitude of the reading involved and the number of papers to read for each class it may take your instructor up to three weeks to grade your Research Papers. I will return the Papers with feedback as soon as possible.
