Pharmacology
Assignment
Below, you will find links to four articles all discussing
the results of the same scientific study on bacterial growth. As a first step, please read all four
articles in their entirety. If there are
any links to click on inside an article, you should click on those links and
read the resulting webpages as well. Next, do your own Google search to find out as much as you can regarding
this study and the results obtained. After you have gathered all your information, you are to either: A)
write an article, B) create a PowerPoint presentation, or C) record a video and
answer ALL the following questions:
· Why was there so much bacterial growth?
· What conditions and habits increase the
bacterial count?
· Do these results surprise you?
· Did you know this before reading the article?
· Now that you have this knowledge, what will you
do differently (if anything)?
· What are the nursing implications of this
(surgery prep, patient care, etc.)? · What drugs might be useful if a severe infection
results?
· What drugs, products, or procedures might be
useful in reducing bacterial count?
· How do you think participants with navel
piercings affected the results of the study?
· What kinds of patients should you be most
concerned about who would have the most problems with this type of bacterial
growth?
· Does clothing or lifestyle play a role in
increasing bacterial growth?
If you have any personal experiences with patients, friends,
family, or yourself that apply to this topic, be sure to include these in your
article, PowerPoint, or video. If you
are writing an article or creating a PowerPoint presentation, photos or videos
can be attached/included if you so choose. Other suggestions/ideas: Gather your own information, interview friends,
do your own research, etc. Doing Google and
YouTube searches can lead you down a never-ending ârabbit holeâ where you will
discover countless articles and videos which will give you a wealth of extra
content to include in your assignment.
When writing the article, creating the PowerPoint, or recording
the video, try to make it as light-hearted as possible, just as the four
articles below treated the subject matter. Humor is always appreciated, if appropriate. Common sense should tell you that the grade
you will receive will be determined by how much effort you put into your article, PowerPoint, or video. The more that you discuss, the more detailed
that you are, the more photo/video content that you have, and the more research
that you do, the better your presentation, and thus, the better your
grade. Be sure to follow the
rubric which will ultimately determine the grade that you end up with.
