“Mental Health Care Collaborative Model
American Psychiatrist Association CoCM model was developed to promote care delivery to mental health patients by facilitating the collaboration of healthcare professionals in general medical care and behavioral health. It is utilized in healthcare because it integrates mental health care to ensure every patient benefits. This collaborative model allows healthcare organizations to invest more resources in planning and developing better care plans while ensuring enough public health education programs are provided (American Psychiatric Association, 2016). Patients with behavioral health problems and other mental health issues are engaged using the collaborative model in primary care and community health settings, whereby the healthcare providers focus more on improving the quality of care and outcomes. The collaboration model ensures that the providers are accountable for the actions and decisions that they take when engaging with mental health patients and delivering care.
The CoCM model is similar to the Prevention Institute’s Model for Collaboration because the two models provide an interactive framework where the healthcare providers collaborate to provide the best patient care. For instance, professionals within the different healthcare fields collaborate to meet the health and well-being needs of the patients. However, the two models are different in terms of application. The Prevention Institute’s Model for Collaboration focuses on preventing health conditions, but the CoCM model focuses more on the patients’ recovery processes.
The outcomes of the CoCM model are determined by assessing the health programs provided by the collaborative teams to ensure that the care is population-focused and evidence-based (Zilber, 2022). The collaborating teams are provided enough resources and tools to work together and help patients improve their health. The evaluation processes used in the collaborative model involved determining whether the treatments provided were responsible for improving the quality of mental health of the patients. The evaluation is done to ensure that the implementation of the collaboration model is helping improve the health outcomes of the patients undergoing mental health treatment.”
