All articles for the discussion postings can be found in the book, Taking Sides: Clashing Views in Social Psychology (6th Edition). Did you find one of the articles more persuasive than the other? Identify a strength and a weakness for each article. A foundational concept in research psychology is âcorrelation does not imply causationâ; this is partially because even if a correlational relationship does exist between two variables, itâs hard to know which variable is the cause, and which variable is the effect. Do you think that high self-esteem leads to good or bad outcomes, or does success/failure influence oneâs self-esteem? People who believe that children need high self-esteem are very confident in their opinion, as are people who believe that self-esteem can be too high. Do you think each side of the issue would be open to changing their minds, if the evidence were strong enough? Or do you think peopleâs opinions are so strong that almost nothing would change their minds? Do you, personally, think you have high self-esteem or low self-esteem? Now that you have read both sides of the issue, are you satisfied with your current level of self-esteem? Do you wish it were higher or lower Why? If you have children or imagine having them in the future, do you want them to receive a certificate or trophy simply for participating, or do you believe this fosters a sense of spoiled entitlement?
