Patient education involves helping patients become better informed about their health, medical procedures, and choices they have regarding treatment. Patient education is important to allow individuals to better care for themselves and make informed decisions regarding their medical care.
Patients obtain information about their condition in a variety of ways. They can discuss their condition with health care provider, reading written materials, through drug advertisements on television, and many patients access a wide range of medical information on the Internet. Another source where a patient can acquire education is the medical assistant.
When providing patient education, it is important to understand that a medical assistant should never provide information they are unsure about or falsely reassure patients about their conditions.
Before presenting information a medical assistant must have sound knowledge of the topic and should provide the patient with learning materials and resources to assist in understanding.
For this case study, you will need to conduct research on cholesterol. In a 1-2 page properly APA formatted paper with an additional reference page, discuss in detail if there are common symptoms for the disorder, identify possible causes, and types of treatments that could be used.
