Strategies of Dissemination to be Used
The two best strategies of dissemination to consider include local dissemination and a presentation at the unit level. The success of unit-level dissemination will only be achieved primarily where the considered issue improves the underlying problem in the unit. An Operational environment has varied assessments that can result from different units within a particular setting. This points out the need to consider the context under which the EBP is done (Graham et al.,2020). The strategies of dissemination that can be utilized to communicate EBP include podium presentations and poster presentations. Although enough information may not be provided through a postered presentations, and the presentation may not appear interesting and pleasing, the presentation loses its objective. Meanwhile, the presentation may face unfortunate participant results. Poor attendance may result from poor publicity.
Barriers Encountered When Utilizing the Dissemination Strategies and Ways to Overcome the Barriers
The deficiency of interest from the workers is the blockade that is met in the presentation at the unit stage. Staff opposition while applying a change they do not desire or like shows a lack of attentiveness is an example. To overcome this barrier, staff involvement in the presentation is critical (Houghton et al.,2020). This may involve making a staff member one among the presenters. Through this, the staff will be interested. Absence of access to posters or journals is the blockade that may be met in using a peer-reviewed journal article. Journals that mandate fees for subscriptions, hence putting the majority of the readers, are an example of this barrier. This issue can be resolved by giving readers that’s online free access to journals that they are requesting.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) improves healthcare quality, safety, and patient outcomes and fosters clinicians’ active engagement in their practices (Melnyk et al., 2017). Based on this discussion, the two dissemination strategies I would be most inclined to use are unit level and poster presentations. I chose these two strategies due to their unique benefits. I find this most effective when communicating information to my staff.
Conducting unit-level information in small groups will give my staff firsthand information and allow them to ask pertinent questions that may arise. Additionally, using these methods will enable staff to feel comfortable and willing to participate compared to using a larger setting. A poster presentation can be an excellent visual tool to communicate evidence-based interventions and serves as a reminder when posted on the unit. Evidence-based information increases care standardization and decrease variations, reducing clinician stress (Melnyk et al., 2012).
I would least likely use a podium or organizational presentation at this time because I would like to capture my audience’s attention more by using a smaller setting. Some of the barriers I can face using a unit level or poster presentation is that some staff are not attentive to what has been said at the meeting. I still find staff not following protocol days after a project has been implemented, which tells me they were not attentive when it was presented. E.g., We have an increase in the rate of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) on my unit. We conducted unit-level presentations on how to reduce the rate of CLABSIs. We did hands-on training of staff as a refresher, on how to keep central lines clean, change and date the dressings, etc. On my daily audits, I still find patients’ dressings not dated, orange caps not on the lines, and no documentation of CHG baths done.
Two barriers I might encounter when using these dissemination strategies are, pushback from staff- many do not like change and prefer to use common practices instead of evidence-based best practices. Another barrier is that Poster presentations can sometimes be confusing, especially if not communicated properly. Some staff may have difficulty navigating charts in order to understand the information that needs to be communicated. I would be able to overcome these barriers by using evidence supported by organizational policies and procedures. Securing administrative support, explaining project ideas, and letting people know who to contact for help will improve effectiveness (Gallagher et al., 2011).
