You
are to write a paper examining a topic regarding pharmacology research.
The research may be basic science, translational, clinical, or a combination.
Your paper should include references to empirical data and should not simply be
a review of current clinical use, mechanism of action, or past history of a
drug or class of drugs. You MUST write on the paper topic below.
Topic
Esomeprazole: Medical Advancement or Marketing Ploy? Discuss factors leading to the development of esomeprazole, how it was developed, and it’s marketing. Be sure to present this in the frame of drug discovery/development and be sure to use primary sources when possible.
Your
goal is to demonstrate that you have a working understanding of pharmacological
information and that you are able to apply that understanding to new
material.
Success
in communicating scientific knowledge is dependent on not only the quality of the
scientific content, but also your ability to coherently put your thoughts into
words and the technical aspects of spelling and grammar. With this in
mind, your grade will be based on all of these aspects. With that said,
scientific writing should be succinct and to the point. It should not be
flowery and verbose. Your goal is to make sure your writing style does
not detract from
the effectiveness of the paper. Write something that conveys your
message, doesnât have obvious grammatical mistakes, doesnât have typos, and
isnât overtly clunky, and you should receive full points for your writing
style.
Paper must be at least 1,500 words. This does not
include the title page or references.
Use the Molecular Pharmacology journal citation style. It is suggested to use a citation manager software.
DO NOT overuse review papers. Their sparing use is ok,
particularly for an introductory section, but it should only be a small amount
and it should be for very basic, fundamental information.
DO NOT use case reports, even if published in a scientific journal, as
a major source in your paper. You should aim to not use more than one in
your entire paper and not use that reference for more than a sentence or
two. Case reports are essentially anecdotal information and need to be
treated as such.
DO NOT include only a single citation for an entire paragraph if it is not obvious, based on your writing, that all information is from the same source. Individually cite each factual statement, even if you cite the same source for each one, if that is not obvious. Citing after every sentence is never wrong.
