A letter
writing campaign is a strategy to work with community, municipal, provincial or
federal
politicians to influence change (RNAO, 2015). The job of a politician is to
represent
your
concerns as a citizen and voter (RNAO, 2015).
The letter
will be addressed to the appropriate stakeholder.
In the
letter writing campaign, it is important to consider the following points (not
an
exhaustive
list):
1.
State
the concern
2.
Explain
the impact of the concern
3.
If
possible, include a personal story (as always, be mindful of confidentiality)
4.
Say
what you would like to see done to remedy the concern
5.
State
a recommended solution (realistic, and achievable)
6.
State
the date/time by which you expect a response.
The letter
itself should be single-spaced and a maximum 2 pages.
