Your health care organization has focused on hospital and rehabilitative care but the CEO is now considering investment in primary care, health promotion, and palliative care. He realizes successful efforts could mean less income for the hospital and its doctors and even reduced employment, but he knows this is a necessary evolution in preparation for population health. In planning for this change, he has asked you, the COO, to research the risks/benefits and come up with a proposal for presenting this change to the Executive Team.
In 300 words or less, discuss population health and why primary prevention (health promotion, primary and palliative care) is an important component of continuum-based care.
