Research methods are defined as processes used to collect data. There are many types of research methods used depending on your topic and your goals.
There are two main categories of research methods: qualitative research methods and quantitative research methods.
Quantitative research methods refer to using numbers to measure data. Researchers can use statistical analysis to find connections and meaning in the data. The Qualitative research methods refer to exploring information and non-numerical data.
My research study is Pressure ulcers among elderly hospital patients. The study design of my research is an observational descriptive, prospective longitudinal method.
A pressure ulcer (PU) causes great suffering for the people supported and has negative effects on health status (e.g. extreme discomfort, pain, potentially life-threatening infections) and patient quality of life, as well as healthcare costs(Lee et al., 2017).
Pressure ulcers are often preventable and are therefore induced as preventable adverse events and as such a quality indicator for health care.(Shahin et al., 2009).
Measuring and monitoring the prevalence or incidence of pressure ulcers in hospitalized patients is therefore an important part of strategic patient safety work and has become a key objective for many healthcare facilities around the world
Regarding my research, the inclusion criteria will be patients > 65 years or more
Admitted in the unit, with PU in admission or Hx of PU
Exclusion criteria will be patients less than 65 years.
Methods: Skin assessment upon admission, evaluation by wound care staff or department , skin assessment before discharge and preventives measures aas QI mattress, foams, repositioning Q 2hours, foams.
As we know in the Observation study, the researcher records what they see participants doing or saying during the period of study. It is a longitudinal study because my research will follow a population forward over time, evaluating the effects of one or more variables on a process.
