Case Study – Read and Answer questions thoroughly
Frank has lived in Cleveland all of his life, and most of
his family lives there as well. He was raised mainly by his mother, who has
been a waitress at a popular diner for years. Frank has two sisters; Tina is 23
and lives with Frank and his mother, while raising her one-year-old daughter,
and Angie is 12. Frank just turned 18 and is stumbling through his last year of
high school. Heâs never really been a popular kid; he has a few close friends
but mostly heâs ignored at school. Quiet, short and slightly built, he has
occasionally been the target of bullies. After school, Frank usually grabs a
snack from the diner where his mom works and then heads home to play games with
online friends. Sometimes his best friend Tanner joins him, but Tanner works
after school and canât always join him. Thatâs ok with Frank, because heâs
become close to several of his online gaming friends, including a cute girl
named Bella. They start playing games, but it doesnât take long for them to
slip off to a private chat room and talk for hours. Bella is perfect; sheâs 17
and also a senior in high school, but she lives in Las Vegas. Sheâs tall with
gorgeous hair, and Frank is just as excited as she is as she waits for her
college application letters. When she asked Frank for a photo a few months ago,
he panicked. No way a girl like Bella would want to talk to a guy like him.
Rather than send a photo of himself, Frank scrambled and found a photo of a guy
on a social media site and sent that to her. For months now, they had been
exchanging photos and sharing important moments in their lives. Frank tried to
match her successes with tales of his own, some true, most not. He had always
planned to eventually tell Bella his true story, but she seemed to like him
more and more and when she finally sent her phone number, Frank knew this
wasnât the time to come clean. Only Tanner knew about Bella and Frankâs deceit,
but he brushed it off as another internet fling that would eventually fizzle.
In the meantime, Tanner knew Frank was lonely and this gave him something to do.
Tanner works at a warehouse with a good friend named Riku. Rikuâs family moved
to Cleveland
just a few years ago from Tokyo. When he showed up at school
on his first day, Riku and Tanner immediately clicked and Tanner was able to
get Riku on at the warehouse. Frank was a cool guy and all, but Tanner
initially befriended him because he felt bad that none of the other kids ever
talked to Frank. But Riku was a real friend. They ran in the same social circle
at school, played on the same teams, worked together and spent a lot of time
with each otherâs families. The Saitos were not a close family and always
seemed super distant to Riku and his 12-year-old sister Aiko. Tanner knew Mr.
and Mrs. Saito loved their kids but there was just a weird distance that was different
than anything that Tanner knew. Every time he came over, Aiko was on her
laptop, typing away. Aiko was an interesting kid. She was super outgoing and,
like her brother, had become pretty popular in her middle school right away.
Tanner chuckled when he saw that her profile pic was of a tall, older-looking
girl. An alter ego, he thought, smiling. âTall and hair down to your ankles
almost, huh? And seems youâve, ummm, grown in areas
very quickly,â Tanner teased her. âYou know, itâs like my
dad saysâgirls grow up so fast these days,â Aiko responded with a wink.
âBe careful, though. There are some crazies out there.â
âThese guys had better be careful with me. Bella has that magic.â Aiko smiled
and returned
to her typing. Tanner froze. It couldnât beâbut it was. What
to do? Should he tell?
