CONGRESSIONAL TESTIMONY FINAL EXAM
As we near the end of this course, you should have retained quite a bit of information about the health insurance system of the United States—how it works and…how it doesn’t. There are still so many problems with our health system.
You will prepare an argumentative paper as if you were asked to appear before the Congress of the United States to fight for or against universal healthcare in the US. Your charge is not only testifying about the problems, but most importantly, giving suggestions for solutions. Get creative! You can propose any solution that you think would work, just support your solution(s) with facts and concepts from the course.
This is NOT a group assignment. Please do your own work in accordance with the Methodist University Honor Code.
As you research ideas for your argument, might I suggest that you look for resources and take notes on the following topics:
Past attempts to create a federal, national health care plan. Why did these attempts fail?
Current problems with healthcare coverage
Who is at risk?
What’s happening in the government currently?
Ideas for solving the problem of uninsured or underinsured Americans.
REQUIREMENTS:
Your final exam should be a well-thought, referenced, argument that is supported by facts and should be no more than 5 pages of text.
Parameters for the assignment are as follows:
The assignment itself should be a total of 7-8 pages:
Cover page including the name of the course, semester, assignment, and your name
Up to five (5) pages of text
Reference page cited in AMA or APA format (you should have a minimum of 10 references)
Double-spaced
1-inch margins
11-point Sans Serif font (Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri)
WHY ARE YOU BEING ASKED TO DO THIS?
The point of this project is to discuss and share your opinion while comprehensively describing what you have learned in this course about healthcare (the good and the bad). By the end of the course, you should be able to comprehend, explain, justify, and propose solutions for the nation’s healthcare system and changes that may be necessary for us to reduce spending and provide quality and affordable care for our citizens. You should also be able to validate your opinions with facts and sources to make a cogent argument for or against certain changes.
