The educational determinant is economical, food, physical environment, social environment, and health. The quality determinant is equality in education, at all levels, for all vulnerable populations (Healthy People, ND).
A higher level of education means healthier people and longer lives, according to Healthy People 2030. Children from low-income families with disabilities and who experience bullying are more likely to struggle with math and reading. Theyâre also less likely to graduate from high school or college. This means theyâre less likely to get safe, high-paying jobs and more likely to have health problems like heart disease, diabetes, and depression. Also, those who go to poor-performing schools or canât afford to send children to college due to poverty can have effects of poor brain development, making children hard to do well in school. The Key is to help pay for college and do well in school have long-term health benefits (Healthy People, 2022).
I, as the NP, can gather information at a good child visit as to how development is going. Any new health issues such as stomach aches, anxiety, and possibly even poor health from poor nutrition could be some of the information I can gather from the well-child visit. I could also ask the parent or guardian how they are doing in school. Information like this could help me diagnose some of the previous issues like learning disabilities and mental or poor physical health.
There are many workgroups on the Healthy People website to help those in certain age groups. This help guides the person to better knowledge, education, and health information to better understand their current situations (Healthy People, ND). The second resource is a local resource here in West Central Illinois. It is called West Central AHEC- Illinois Area Health Education Centers. They help people learn and prepare for further education (AHEC, 2022).
