Using systems theory as a foundation for your approach, and based on the assigned readings, prepare a case study in which a family is facing a crisis (e.g., experiencing addiction of a family member, a chronic illness, infidelity, or any other addiction e.g., sexual addiction). Present the case study considering the potential impact of individual, family, organization, and societal elements. Outline what major interventions might be utilized and an appropriate treatment plan based on the case presented.
Be sure to include the following:
Brief overview of the case history and presenting problems.
Systems theory implications of the situation.
Your preferred approach of therapy to address the presented issue (traditional or postmodern models can be considered).
Goals for therapy.
Synopsis of the overall treatment plan.
Detailed discussion of the treatment plan.
Termination process.
Conclusion/ personal reflection of the case.
Your case study should reference academic resources, some of which are listed as required readings.
Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

Substance Use, Addictive Behaviors, and Infidelity
Today you will learn about different crises that families may face related to substance use. Research reveals that family models “are among the most effective approaches for treating both adults and adolescents with drug problems” (Rowe, 2012, p. 59).
You will also learn about the potential impact of infidelity on couples. Infidelity is among the most common presenting problems in couple therapy. One of the challenges in assisting couples following infidelity is that couples may not agree on what behaviors constitute or define infidelity. Assisting couples with coming to an agreed-upon definition of infidelity, along with exploring infidelity as a form of emotional reactivity (e.g., creating distance within the couple relationship), and examining infidelity as a transgenerational construct are among the ways that MFTs can assist couples following infidelity.

While reading the resources, pay particular attention to the etiology of these conditions as well as the diverse conceptualizations and treatment options that have been proposed and used by MFTs. Reflect on which options or interventions seem to resonate more for you, as a clinician, and how they align with your overall understanding of the change process and your philosophy of change.
