The discussion board assignment will encourage you to engage in a discussion with peers by evaluating strategies to provide competent transcultural nursing in health and illness of groups, in particularly in in the care of mental health covered in chapters 10 and 11. Share ideas and new discoveries, submit scholarly posts, be thoughtful and open.

Some people feel that mental illnesses such as depression are not really illnesses but rather character traits; some people go further and state that artists with mental health problems would lose their ability to be creative if placed on medications. What do you feel about these statements?
What is the impact of labeling a person “a schizophrenic,” rather than “a person with schizophrenia, or “an alcoholic,” versus a person with a drinking problem?
How can a nurse aid in changing the perceptions of others to be more considerate and respectful of the individuals experiencing a mental health illness?
How does access to health care affect the ability of persons with mental illness to avoid relapse and lead a
productive life?
