Compare and contrast Kurt Goldsteinâs work on motivational factors and Abraham Maslowâs co-opted and revised rendition as a âpyramid of needs.â A distinguishing difference to be elaborated upon is the fact that Goldsteinâs original work places âself-actualizationâ as a universal, organismic (biological) tendency driving all other needs, whereas Maslowâs revision locates it on top of a pyramid. In your answer, explain Goldsteinâs thinking on why motivational factors should not be strictly hierarchical. Finally, draw a parallel between Goldsteinâs work and S. Freudâs original description and stratification of âpersonalityâ â look for commonalities and differences.
