She has a rotator cuff injuryand is currently in recovery. Develop a case study of the injured individual you interviewed, using first names only. Case study information should come from the ERAIQ and Rehabilitation Profiles that were completed during the interview. The case study is essentially the highlights of what the injured individual highlighted on both the ERAIQ and Profile forms. See the case studies after each of the chapters in the textbook for examples on how to complete the case study write-ups.
Based on the interview information, work up a psychological skills plan including goal setting, mental imagery, relaxation, self-talk, and social support, that you would like to develop to help the injured individual cope with his/her injury and/or be more effective with the rehabilitation process. a. In your write-up, make sure you justify why each psychological skill is necessary. The justification should match the information obtained from the interview and the psychological skills focused on that would best help that injured individual cope with the injury and be more effective in the rehabilitation process.
b. Apply the psychological skills to the injured individual âneeds.â For example, if you decide your injured individual should set goals, make sure you set outcome, performance, and process goals that fit the SMARTER acronym and that relate to the injured individuals biggest âneedâ in the rehabilitation setting. You should also talk about when you would evaluate the goals. For mental imagery and relaxation, I would expect to see a relaxation/mental imagery script that would benefit the injured individual and his/her progress in rehabilitation. Donât be afraid to find out more information from the injured individual so you can really individualize the scripts for him/her. For self-talk, make sure you help the injured individual be more aware of his/her negative thoughts, help him/her âstopâ the negative/inappropriate thought and finally to reframe that negative/inappropriate thought to a positive affirmation. You will need to touch base with your injured individual and find out what his/her negative self-doubts are so that positive affirmations could be developed. Finally, for social support, talk about the type of social support the injured individual needs and who could offer that support through the rehabilitation process. c. The key to this section is application. While I do except you to justify why you selected the psychological skill you did, I also expect you to use the information obtained from the interview to apply it to the injured individual. d. The goal of this section is to be able to hand over the program to your injured individual so he/she could begin implementing psychological skills into the physical rehabilitation setting. 3. Present the psychological skills training program to your injured individual. Educate the injured individual on why you selected the psychological skills you selected and how these skills could benefit him/her. What is your injured individualâs response to the program? Talk with the injured individual about how he/she could begin implementing this program into his/her rehabilitation. a.
