For your research paper, you will address a psychological movement (theory) and address the following aspects:
1. It’s origin (make to sure to address how it rose in relation to the previous or coexisting paradigm).
2. It’s tenets
3. It’s predictions
4. It’s utility (application)
5. It’s weaknesses (and the threats that anomalies post to it as a theory, e.g. what does it not explain?)
You paper must have a minimum of 10 scholarly resources (wiki’s, dictionaries, etc. do not count). Your paper will be graded as follows:
Your paper will be graded based on the following:
• Pragmatics
o Submission
 (Please note that generally you do not receive points for pragmatics, but the professor may choose to subtract points for not following instructions.)
o Paper submitted on time
o Paper submitted in the manner indicated in the syllabus (uploaded to Moodle in doc / docx format, submitted in class, etc.)
• APA
o (Please note that the amount of points assigned for APA related aspects of a paper generally decreases with each year of your education until points are no longer assigned but subtracted for not following APA guidelines.)
• Title Page
o Correct running head (header) with pagination
o Title, name, school name centered and double-spaced (please also include course number and title, date and instructor’s name)
• Formatting
o Entire paper is double-spaced with 1″ margins. This includes spacing between paragraphs.
o 12 pt font, New Times Roman
• Style
o Length sufficient to properly develop written communication with respect to the main idea, subtopics, etc. (ca. 8-10 or perhaps a few more pages)
o Academically appropriate (formal without being “wordy” or involving affectation (unnatural or artificial expression meant simply to impress)
o Free of slang, contractions, personal pronouns, “you”, “I”
o Variety of sentence structures
o Fluency of expression in writing
o Student summarizes and paraphrases instead of quoting sources.
o Strong introduction of topic’s key question(s), terms. Clearly delineates subtopics to be reviewed. Specific thesis statement.
o All material clearly related to subtopic, main topic.
o Strong organization and integration of material within subtopics.
o Strong transitions linking subtopics, and main topic.
o Strong peer-reviewed research based support for thesis.
o Student focuses on the content of the idea instead of the authors (authors as citation instead of part of the sentence).

o Assignment is at least checked using word processing spelling and grammar tools
o Assignment is also checked visually for errors not detected electronically
o Syntax, grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage, mechanics, organization, and clarity are at the highest level
• Introduction
o Topic is appropriate to the assignment both in content and level as it specifically relates to both the class and the assignment.
o Paper (i.e., first paragraph or two) begins in a broad manner and clearly explains the problem to be investigated and/or researched.
• Content
o Professional language and concepts relevant to the field of psychology are utilized.
o Sources are described in enough detail so that their relation to other studies and to the relevant theoretical and methodological issues can be understood by the reader.
o It is clear whether each general statement is a hypothesis, a result of a specific study, or a general conclusion.
o Absolutes are avoided.
o The review is in the author’s own words, and the focus is on the research, rather than the researchers.
o Limitations of prior research and contrasting views/positions are presented.
o A summary of the literature is provided, and there is a specific, clear description of what is missing from this literature or what researchers do not yet know.
o Specific issues, variables, populations, or methods are mentioned when they are relevant to the topic.
• Discussion & Conclusions
o Discussion includes a restatement of the findings.
o Patterns in the data and relations among the variables are explained and conclusions do not go beyond the data.
o The explanation/ interpretation is well connected to the hypotheses and to the broader psychological problem as represented in the introduction.
o Any discrepancies are addressed and a potential explanation is provided
o The take-home message is clearly summarized at the end.
• References & Citations
o References on separate titled page (centered)
o In correct APA format (all information included and appropriate for type of source)
o Listed alphabetically
o Hanging indent
o Each source is cited at least once and all cited sources are included in references
o All citations complete and correctly applied
o All sources properly attributed, no plagiarism.
