Guidelines: Capstone Final Paper
Process: Students must work together in their groups. Each member must participate. Purpose: This report should be at least 10-12 pages in length, excluding appendices, double-spaced using 12-point type, Times New Roman and paginated. Cover page and Abstract is NOT Page 1. Grading is based on students meeting each of the criteria below:
Outline & Grading Criteria for Paper
Abstract Include your previously graded College of Physicians abstract. Organization Information (5%) Provide who you are working with, their title, degrees, contact information and background on what the organization does on campus. Appendix 1. Agency contract (1 page) Introduction (5%) Background of project including a definition of the public health issue being addressed, its significance, and how it impacts the health of college students overall. Epidemiology of the problem. Be sure to include descriptions of the target population. Provide rationale as to why you chose this group. (2-3 pages)
Literature Review (10%) Provide an overview of the literature that provides the evidence-base for your program design. State the theory you are using as the framework for your project. Provide the stages and their meanings. Provide examples where this theory was used to target your topic and/or program/product. Outline exactly how the theory chosen relates to your specific program/product. Provide a Logic Model. If you use a graphic to illustrate the theory, please display it in your Appendix section. (2-3 pages)
Design-Program Plan (10%) Provide the overall program goal(s) and SMART objectives that will outline how your project will meet your program goal. Discuss the details about your project; how it was implemented. Strategies and Activities (Provide which level of objectives [awareness, knowledge, attitude, etc.]; category of strategies/activities [communication, education, behavior, etc.]). This section should provide enough detail that someone can read your paper and replicate what you did (number of minutes for workshop; content covered; outline of activities [think of Health Education course]. Appendix can include all supporting documents – flyers, etc. (2-3 pages)
Evaluation (10%) Describe what you did to evaluate your project (pre/post test, etc.). Assess and provide detail on whether the project activities and goals were appropriate in addressing the problem. Did they result in the expected outcomes of your Capstone project? If they were not successful, explain the reasons why and what you think should have been done differently. Appendix items can include your survey instruments and questions. (1-2 pages) Results (10%) Indicate here the results of your project. Provide data on increase in knowledge; summary of pre- and post-test results. This is where you show how your results match up with your objectives. Data must be presented visually – no more than 3-4 tables, graphs or charts. (1-2 pages) Conclusions and Recommendations (10%) Anticipated or suggested further action on the project resulting from project work and outcomes. If you were to continue this work, what would you like to see done on La Salle’s campus? (1-2 pages)
Discussion (10%) Talk about the process of the overall assignment (from the beginning of class until the end of class). Include discussion of strengths as well as barriers that were identified and how you addressed them. This is a personal discussion of the project from your viewpoint. Thus, it is acceptable to write in the first person (using “We”) for this section. (1-2 pages)
