Please use a peer reviewed scholarly journal or article to support response that is no more than 4 years old DISCUSSION 1 One of the conceptual models or framework that can guide an evidence-based practice (EBP) is the Advancing Research and Clinical Practice Through Close Collaboration Model also known as the (ARCC) model. This model aims to provide healthcare institutions and clinical settings with a conceptual framework which can facilitate system-wide use of EBP to help improve quality outcomes (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). The ARCC model, is recognized as one of the three most commonly used frameworks to guide EBP implementation (Melnyk et al., 2021). A culture assessment of an organization’s readiness for EBP is the first step in the model (Melnyk et al., 2021). For this first step to be measured, the Organizational Culture and Readiness Scale for System-Wide Integration of Evidence-Based Practice (OCRSIEP) is used (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). This tool outlines the characteristics of an organization, including its strengths and opportunities for fostering EBP within a healthcare system (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019).
Once this step is completed, then comes the identification of strengths and major barriers to EBP implementation in the organization. Examples of these barriers are; insufficient EBP awareness and skills, deficiency of EBP mentors, lack of believe that EBP improves patient care and outcomes, lack of authority to change procedures, leaders in nursing are resistant to the change (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). These and many other barriers tend to be in the way of the advancement and implementation of EBP. But this model gives us the main component of implementing and retaining the EBP in clinical practice settings. The identification of EBP mentors is the next step in this model. The development of a good amount of EBP mentors, working with point-of-care clinicians, to implement evidence-based care in hospitals and healthcare systems, follows (Melnyk et al., 2021). The next part in the model process is the implementation of evidence into the organizational practice. Throughout the course of a 12 month program, the mentors will learn how to implement and sustain EBP in the entire system or institution. The ARCC program is structured around a series of 6 workshops, each containing 8 days of educational and skill-building sessions that are focused in the seven-step EBP process (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019).
Lastly is the evaluation of outcomes focuses on making sure the EBP is implemented well and that is there to stay. The key ARCC strategy is intense structured mentoring, which involves not only providing information about EBP but also changing beliefs about it (Friesen et al., 2017). This is such a great model to follow, it provides all the important part that need to be addressed and it allows for the EBP to be implemented and become part of the organizations DNA.
