comments such as âI like what you said,â âthat is a good comment,â and âI

Rather, state reasons that support your conclusions with additional and/or alternate research/ideas/thoughts

To
begin with from the beginning it was already a little sketchy because
it was a personal call, sometimes it is best to avoid these kinds of
calls while at work. Sometimes it can be a negative call that affects
your mood and emotions affecting the way you perform. If she preformed
the act of giving her relative the drug sample she would have not been
following laws, company policy, or ethical/ moral values. In that moment
she had a very important decision to make that could change potentially
affect her career “It is important to clearly distinguish between
law, ethics and morality. Unfortunately, these three terms are often
used interchangeably by healthcare providers as well as the general
public” (Schiller, Pesut, Roussel, Greig, 2019). She had to choose
between what was right legally and ethically, she choose to change her
morals in the moment of. “for many groups, the letter of the law may not
entirely coincide with many of the ethical and moral positions ”
(Schiller, Pesut, Roussel, Greig, 2019). In this situation she would not
have received any benefit due to breaking the facility policy and law.
She would also have to face the consequences such as being fired,
loosing licensure also assuming she got caught as opposed to the
relative who would have received the drug samples with no consequences’
or little if any ” The central concern of ethics is the character of
individuals” ( Purdy,2013). These consequences would have fallen down
upon everyone in the facility who were there during the time of the
action. I know if that was someone I knew stealing drugs samples for a
relative and made the news I would me completely disappointed because
they put in so much hard work to earn their degree, certifications and
licensure to loose it in seconds. From and outside perspective I could
encourage these actions by stating I would expect a relative to do the
same if I were to be sick, I would be stating this without thinking of
the consequences my relative even myself may have to face. From another
perspective I could state that even though plenty of measures are taken
to ensure all practitioners and providers abide by policies and oaths to
ensure the best quality care for patients not all providers take these
oaths and policies seriously due to the fact that this is a reoccurring
issue whether we hear about it or not. If there it was myself preforming
this action my family would be extremely disappointed. I would not be
able to look at my mother directly because she sacrifice everything she
had and came to a different country in order to provide a better future
for myself and siblings, these actions would be interpreted by her as me
saying I do not appreciate all she did. Having to face myself would be
hard, I had the choice to do right vs. wrong and I choose to do the
wrong thing therefore I would have to take all the consequences although
I would not be the happiest person.

Code of ethics can be tricky and if I were in Loran’s shoes I would
feel bad, and almost obligated to help out my family member. Ethically
it is wrong and everyone is required a proper prescription along with
having to pay for it otherwise it would be stealing. The first question
loran should have asked herself before telling her cousin yes was, ” If I
preform this act have i followed relevant law, and kept within my
employee company policies?” Im sure the answer to that would have been
no. I used to work in a dental office and we always needed doctor
approval to hand out any sort of drug to the patient even if it had been
prescribed before. Next question she should have asked herself is,
“will this act provide a win win situation for as many of the involved
individuals as possible?” The answer would be no. This could essentially
get all parties involved in trouble and possibly cause loran to lose
her job at the practice. Then also get her cousin into some legal
trouble as well for taking the medication unpaid for. I also feel Loran
would not want her act to be publicized in the newspapers or any other
social media platform because she is being sneaky and going against the
code of ethics, it would most likely be hard for her to get a job after
this story was out for the world to hear. Other than her cousin of
course, she would probably not want her family to know in fear of them
trying to also take advantage of her and her job position, or for them
to judge her for the wrong doing. I would say looking in the mirror
Loran would feel guilty of her actions and would regret it after going
through with giving her the medication. If i were her I would have
either just said no because it is against the code of ethics, or double
checked with the codes of ethics handbook in the office. Also I would
think to first ask her doctor if it was okay to just give her more since
she has had them in the past or talked to the ethicstitian. This sort
of situation is tough because you want to help, but doing the right
thing and following rules is for the best in this situaion.
