Paper Topic: Three page Paper:  This paper will focus on identifying data in workflows, how to capture data, and discussing the use of data in understanding healthcare processes.
Start by choosing a healthcare workflow process. Now look at the process as a whole. From the tasks that make up that process, identify the various types of data generated (objective, subjective, quantitative, qualitative). Who is providing that data? Who is generating that data? What is the purpose for capturing that data? How can the organization benefit from gathering that data? For this process, state what baseline data you would want to capture, and how you would go about doing so (think surveys, observations, questionnaires, data mining, etc). Discuss what the baseline data you obtained can tell you about the process itself, such as, how you know the process is achieving its intended goal. Identify how health IT has allowed increased capture of data. Identify social behavioral influences on what data can be captured. Comment on how health IT has influenced use of data for management in the healthcare setting and for emergency preparedness and response. Discuss how this ability is beneficial but also how it can have unintended negative consequences and how to mitigate those consequences.
Rubric
Identify a healthcare workflow process by describing it by name, the purpose of the process, and the tasks involved. Identify the data generated in a minimum of 5 tasks in that process, describe the type of data(objective, subjective, quantitative, qualitative). Identify who is providing that data, generating that data, the purpose for capturing that data, and how it serves an organizational purpose. State what baseline data you would want to capture, and how you would go about doing so (think surveys, observations, questionnaires, data mining, etc). Discuss what the baseline data you obtained can tell you about the process itself, such as, how you know the process is achieving its intended goal. Identify how health IT has allowed increased capture of data (Be specific in what types of health IT applications are used, and how a user must utilize them to generate data).
Identify and discuss social behavioral influences on what data can be captured (state specific models for human computer interaction, socio-technical models, etc.) Comment on how health IT has influenced use of data for management in the healthcare setting and for emergency preparedness and response (state what you think leaders can use data for, not just for that process but as part of a strategic plan). Discuss how this ability is beneficial but also how it can have unintended negative consequences and how to mitigate those consequences.  Cite at least 2 journal articles and include proper citations and bibliography Evidence of Proof Reading, for proper grammar, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation, APA style, meets required length in words or pages.
Title page and bibliography does not count towards page count.
