Part I: Background Information (Approximately 1-2 pages)
Describe your disease/condition. Include the origin, how the disease was named, etc.
How common is it? Present any local, state, national and/or global incidence, and prevalence statistics about the disease.
Who is affected? What are the demographics of those typically affected (e.g., age/sex/race or ethnic groups/populations etc.)?
What can be done? Describe the primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention strategies and treatments/outcomes for the disease.
Part II: Patient Case Report (Approximately 1-2 pages)
Create a fictional case report of a patient with your chosen disease. Do not copy an existing case
report – though you can look at examples throughout the textbook for ideas of how to write it. The case should be consistent with the information provided in Part I. Include the following:
Who is the patient? Describe the afflicted individuals’ sex, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, where they live (e.g., part of world, urban/rural/suburban, typical climate) and any other pertinent identifying information.
What is the disease? Describe the disease with which the individual is afflicted. Provide a definition, part(s) of the body affected, transmission, risk factors for your patient, and symptoms.
What happened? How did the person come to be diagnosed with the disease? Did they go to a doctor? Live with it for a long time? How was the person diagnosed? What specific tests, assessments, or tools were used?
Part III: Research Summary (Approximately 1-2 paragraphs)
Find at least five journal articles published within the last 10 years (if available; if not, older articles are permitted) about your disease. Summarize the findings of your articles to answer:
What does the research say about your disease?
Are there any innovative diagnostic tools and/or treatments on the horizon?
FORMATTING: The formatting of your paper should follow current APA 7th edition style guidelinesincluding guidelines for a title page, page numbers, line spacing, headings and subheadings, references, and appendices (if included).
