According to Houser (2018), descriptive analysis restructures, orders, and directs data to give meaningful particulars about data through figures and graphs, while inferential statistics predicts outcomes from the data of a specimen. On the other hand, qualitative analysis scrutinizes data to give a broader picture. I found it interesting that a person quickly identifies and establishes the designs unfolding from a given data in descriptive analysis. At the same time, for inferential statics, a conclusion is deduced based on the chances of something happening depending on the conduct or actions of a given population. It is interesting how the mathematical approach helps discover new information and identifies appropriate measures to undertake (Houser, 2018). Data analysis is necessary for the nursing fraternity as it helps discover essential information, make conclusions, and support decision-making (Sizemore et al., 2019). A nurse gets insights about patients on who they are, their habits, and the previous steps that help diagnose and treat.
According to Houser (2018), statistical significance connotes that it’s likely that something is taking place, while clinical significance confirms or proves to what scope that thing is taking place. Statistical significance disproves a negative by stating that an event did not probably occur by chance. In contrast, clinical significance approves a positive by stating that an event happened specifically and designedly. I believe clinical nursing is critical to nursing practice because it is evidence-based, and clinically justifiable outcomes assist in assessing the potency of a treatment procedure (Houser, 2018). Clinical significance justifies the outcome, exceeding the attendant costs, damage, and disruption caused to the individual targeted.
