******Question: Select what you consider a recent or current âhigh profileâ trial. Explore whether there has unethical biases by the police, the lawyers, the judge or even the media coverage in this high profile trial. Cite examples and justify your position.
*******Please respond to this post from another student: According to Irish Times “Derek Chauvin broke Minneapolis police department rules and its ethics code governing the âsanctity of lifeâ in his deadly arrest of George Floyd”, “Chauvin, who is white, kneeling on the neck of Floyd, a 46-year-old handcuffed Black man, for more than nine minutes”. The term sanctity of life means the extent to which human life is considered precious. Jews believe that humans were made as part of God’s creation and in God’s image. Therefore, human life should be valued and considered as sacred and God-given (bbc.com).
While the goal of providing accurate and logically cohesive evidence is a laudable one, if juries cannot understand or appropriately apply the testimony that is given, then forensic science has not been effective, transparent, or ultimately, useful to the trier of fact (Eldridge,2019).
Dr. Langenfeld, an emergency physician, testified he took over Mr. Floydâs care. Asked by prosecutor Jerry Blackwell if the paramedics indicated that they suspected a drug overdose or heart attack, Dr. Langenfeld said they did not, indicating only that Mr. Floydâs heart had stopped beating and that there may have been a delay in starting resuscitation efforts. Medical tests led Dr. Langenfeld to think it was unlikely that Mr. Floyd suffered a heart attack, he told the jury. The most likely explanation, the doctor said, was asphyxia.
Anyone who destroys a human life is considered as if he had destroyed an entire world, and anyone who preserves a human life is considered to have preserved an entire world.Talmud (Sanhedrin 37a)
