Read textbook section 11.19 (Advances in reasoning). Talk to a member of your household who is 10 years old or older, or call a friend or family member. Read the Heinz dilemma to them (Figure 11.51 in your textbook). Then ask them, “Should the husband have done that?” “Why do you think that?” Then ask them to explain their reasoning in more detail. In your essay, summarize their response. Would Kohlberg would classify their response as an example of reasoning in the Preconventional Stage, the Conventional Stage, or the Postconventional Stage? What was it about their response led you to select that stage? (Be kind and professional during your interview. For example, do not say things like, “Hey, you fall at Kohlberg’s lowest stage of moral reasoning!” We will discuss critiques of Kohlberg’s approach in class.)
