Scenario:
A local healthcare system is considering mandating annual flu vaccines for all
healthcare workers. The organization plans to offer the flu vaccine free of
charge to all employees. The administration considers the cost of offering free
vaccination will be offset by reduced loss of productivity from sick staff and
benefit patients by decreasing cases of staff transmission of the flu. Although
annual vaccination against the flu has been recommended by the CDC for all
healthcare workers, annual data does reflect reduced effectiveness for some due
to mutations of the flu strain. The chair of the QI committee has tasked you to
head a special project committee to investigate this inquiry.
