Reality television once again offers a sometimes stark glimpse into one of the disorder families we are discussing. The TV show “Intervention” has been one popular window into which substance use disorders can lead. In this activity, you will watch an episode or two of “Intervention” or similar shows and write a reaction paper on how well the shows reflect DSM-5 symptoms of substance use disorders, as well as how accurately the treatments from the show correspond to the treatments covered in the lectures and in the book. The reaction paper should demonstrate application of your knowledge of DSM-5 criteria for substance use disorders as well as an analysis of if and how the characters depicted reflect DSM-5 symptoms of substance use disorder(s). The paper should also comment on how accurately treatments from the show correspond to treatments covered in the lectures and in the book. The paper must also include relevant information from at least two scholarly sources (see the announcement about scholarly sources) and your reactions to the show.
You can search YouTube for full episodes of “Intervention”. Your reaction paper should be two-page (double-spaced, 12-point font) written using Microsoft Word or a similar word-processing program and converted to *PDF format*. Resources that you use in this paper should be cited in APA Style
