Research Topic: Staffing Shortages and the effects on healthcare in the US
The purpose of this assignment is to give you the skills to critically review and critique peer-
reviewed articles and to identify quality articles to help you develop your research topic and
to include in your literature review.
The Article Review and Critique assignment should be structured using the standard APA article
sections. A peer-reviewed article includes an Abstract, Introduction, Literature Review,
Methods, Results, and ends with a Discussion section. As you read through your article, make
notes related to these sections and organize your assignment using these sections. Your Article
Review and Critique should be 3-5 pages double-spaced. Upload a copy of your article as part of
your assignment submission.
An article review and critique should not read like a summary, but is a systematic way to
objectively review a peer-reviewed research article. A guide has been provided to help you write
a fair review and critique of your article by presenting both the strengths and weaknesses of the
work. The PRISMA tool has also been provided if you are reviewing a systematic review or a
meta-analysis.
As you complete your review and critique, consider whether the content is appropriate for each
of the main sections and if the information is presented logically. Also consider the contribution
the article makes to the field and also make note of the limitations. If the author acknowledges
any limitations, include these as weaknesses along with others you have identified. As you
objectively review your article, bear in mind that authors may have been limited in the
information they were able to provide due to space constraints imposed by the journal. These
limitations should not adversely affect the quality of the content included in the article, however.
