Technology has continued to evolve and advance over the years. There are several new interventions technology has implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic and has continued to be helpful. For example, telehealth provides patients with a way to see their physician without an in person visit. Primarily done online with a computer, smartphone or tablet (HRSA, 2022). This system was integrated at my facility so the residents could speak with their treatment team. A disadvantage of this system was the Clinician had less time to speak with the residents. Also, getting the residents connected with the Clinician was hard because there was a lot of trouble shooting with the computer and most residents are not patient enough to wait. In turn leading the resident without communication with the Clinician and postponing treatment. In turn threatening safety because most of these residents are psychotic and are at risk for hurting themselves.
Another data system to mention is the Electronic Health Records (EHR). This database is used at nearly every hospital and facility. Providing complete patient information giving providers the means to make informed care decisions quickly, helping to improve care and reduce safety risks (HealthIT.gov, 2017). The database used for my facility is called ERMA and it provides us the same benefits. However a disadvantage to mention is that hackers do not need to access files to restrict them. There was ransomware attacks in 2017 through malware causing problems to the servers and costing thousands per incident servers, cost numerous hospitals thousands of dollars per incident (Gaille, 2017). This is a potential risk for data safety because hackers can gain access to patients’ personal and medical information.
Healthcare Technology that is most promising and Impact The most promising technology I believe that impacts health care is telehealth. Besides the fact it is a necessity during a pandemic. There are a lot of people who do not want to go to the doctor’s office because they suffer from anxiety or other personal reasons. This provides them a means to see their physician without added stress. Telehealth contributes to the improvement of patient outcomes due to the comfort and accessibility as mentioned. Furthermore, it is not hard to operate even for those who are not tech savvy. Patients can use Telehealth as an app on their phone and request virtual visits with practitioners and therapists (John Hopkins University, 2022). In-turn more citzens are following up with their providers.
