Pain
is the fifth vital sign. It is subjective, sensitive, and real. It can be
debilitating and negatively affect quality of life therefore patients with
recurrent pain will do anything to get relief form the pain. Opioids are known
to reduce pain but it comes with serious health issues and other problems in prolonged
use and misuse, which has led to the opioid crisis the world is currently
facing. As an aspiring Nurse Practitioner (NP) in an adult primary care
setting, chronic pain management will be a huge part of practice. It will be
great to identify alternatives to pain treatment and management without
opioids. The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of non-opioid
and non-pharmacological options in the management and treatment of chronic
pain. This research will provide evidence that a combination of non-opioid and
non-pharmacological interventions can relieve chronic pain.
