Background: According to WHO,
Palliative Care:
v Helps
to provide a more stable life for those and their loved ones who are facing
barriers and challenges related to chronic,
life-threatening illnesses on all levels.
v There
are many people who need palliative care, but only a proportion (14%) receive
it due to cost.
v Restrictive
guidelines limit the medications needed for comfort measures, such as morphine.
v Resources are limited due to supply and demand of
qualifying programs and trained healthcare professionals
v The demand continues to rise due to the need and aging
populations
v Timely palliative care services, help to reduce cost
of hospitalizations
v Palliative care encompasses many services that are
necessary for sustained quality care.
