Select a book written about a culture, that emphasizes cultural practices, values, and beliefs.
-Undergraduate student expectation: (1) provide an overview of the book and (2) make
connections to at least 3 main themes we’ve discussed in class or in the text in a 7 page
minimum paper
Papers must be written and formatted in APA style, with in text citations and references.

Reflection papers should discuss your thoughts, experiences and opinions of the material.
Papers do not need a cover page but must include your full name and this course section.
Although I always see from the Personal Journals that many students have had the opportunity to travel broadly, either within the US or to other countries, so many students have not been able to do so. So, in this class, I have to come up with some strategies for acquainting you with the nature of other cultures. I do that by showing a variety of different videos and through this assignment. The original idea was to have students select a book out of this series Case Studies on Cultural Anthropology so they can have some kind of view into at least some other culture. As the series title implies, these books are typically written by cultural anthropologists as the result of their travels to other cultural groups. As I’ve said elsewhere in this class, there are over 450+ book (really booklets) in this series.
So the paper is designed to have you provide a review of the book, identify some concepts from the class, and connecting those connects to information from the book you’ve chosen. In this way, hopefully, you can “see” the application of academic concept to world reality.
