The mission of my organization states, “We focus on creating healthier futures for our patients and communities “. Their vision states, “To become a home for health that provides personal, effective, and convenient care for the neighborhoods and communities we serve”. Upon interviewing my nurse manager about the impact of our organizations mission and goals on the nursing practice, she was very positive. She stated, “Our mission is very simple and straight to the point”. We as nurses focus on creating a positive environment for all patients to be seen for concerns they may have as well as regular checkups in a timely fashion. It is important for the nurses at our center to do daily huddles for patients coming in within the next 48 hours to ensure we are coving all bases such as insurance needs, vaccine updates, physicals, medication refills, lab work and referrals before they arrive. Also, the huddle allows the staff to identify patients that are “high risk” who may need extra attention and/or care. Threats that may affect our clinic mainly come from issues of short staff. This is a problem that many hospitals and clinics are experiencing nationwide. With the threat of short staff comes many missed opportunities and risks to patient safety. According to Haddad et al, “Nursing shortages lead to errors, higher morbidity, and mortality rates. In hospitals with high patient-to-nurse ratios, nurses experience burnout, dissatisfaction, and the patients experienced higher mortality and failure-to-rescue rates than facilities with lower patient-to-nurse ratios” (2022). Although I do not work in the hospital, this still holds true for the clinic setting as well. My clinic is now taking measures to hire temporary staff through agencies to try to increase our nursing staff and fill all open positions. The advantages of hiring through a nursing agency is that the onboarding process is much quicker. They can hire a nurse and start them the following week because these nurses are already credentialed through an agency. Also, it allows the administration to decide if the nurse is a good fit for the clinic within three months before they would give them the option to convert to permanent staff. Overall, it is better for the organization and the new nurse entering the job to make sure it works for both parties.

FYI THIS IS MY PROFESSOR’S ORIGNIAL INSTRUCTIONS JUST SO YOU CAN GET AN IDEA:
Interview a nursing leader in your organization or in a professional nursing setting about how this leader views the impact of the organization’s mission and goals on nursing practice. What does this leader see as potential opportunities and threats to the nursing profession, and what role do they envision the organization playing related to these potential opportunities and threats?
Write a summary of the feedback from the leader you interviewed, which includes your own reflections on this perspective.
Submit your summary/reflection as a discussion post, compare and contrast your post with those of your peers, and lead a discussion which highlights similarities and differences in these perspectives.
*** FYI: I’m a nurse manager that supervises medical assistants, phlebotomists, and LPN/RN. I work at a health care center that provides services to the regular and uninsured population such as family medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, lab ,and urgent care. Nursing Leaders at my job above me would be a health care director, chief nursing officer and SVP, or Vice President of Nursing.
