The second final project for this course is the development of a hypothetical program evaluation. After counselors develop treatment plans and deliver services to clients, they are ethically obligated to evaluate those services to determine their effectiveness. Counselors should continually monitor their effectiveness as professionals and take steps to improve when necessary. The final product represents an authentic demonstration of competency because it allows you to design and develop a hypothetical program evaluation.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
Evaluate relevant evidence-based counseling research for informing counseling practices
Evaluate the use of methodologies in existing counseling research for their implications on client care
Assess counseling program evaluations for their impact on targeted populations
Distinguish the use of ethical and cultural considerations within counseling practice
Your program evaluation will include a summary of the current program, along with future recommendations. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed in your paper (3-5 pages total, with references as needed):
I. Purpose of the Program (1-2 paragraphs). Select an actual counseling program – preferably one you are targeting as a possible practicum or internship site – and describe it briefly. What sort of services do they provide? What specific populations are served? (1-2 paragraphs).
II. Evaluation(1-2 paragraphs). Describe what specific outcomes could be used to measure the efficacy of outcomes with this program. If this program worked to the extent that the developers of the program hoped, how would we know?
III. Summary of Hypothetical Data (2-3 paragraphs)
If you were to collect data to determine the efficacy of the aforementioned program, how would you do it? Would this data be collected – would you be using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods?
In evaluating the data, what specific statistical analyses would you use? If you opt for qualitative, what measures will you take to ensure researcher trustworthiness?
Determine if the design reflects an ethnically and culturally competent evaluation. Is the data representative of the culture of the population being evaluated?
Identify the ideal patterns or trends. If everything worked out, what would the data tell you?
IV. Summary (1-2 paragraphs).
Describe the results of the evaluation. If the findings were what you hoped and the program is effective, what would need to be done to maintain this? If not, what might be some future improvements for the clinical program that is being evaluated?
